SUMMARY:National Chemistry Week
DESCRIPTION:Did you know chemistry plays a big role in how the receptors in our noses and mouths interact with spices?  The smallest difference in chemical structure can completely change a spice’s taste and/or smell.  This National Chemistry Week (October 19–25)\, celebrate “The Hidden Life of Spices” with us!  www.acs.org/ncw \nGood Afternoon\, \nI am writing to you today to invite your students to participate in National Chemistry Week and the ACS Illustrated Poetry Contest.  The contest is open to all students in grades K-12.   Entries are accepted in a series of categories.  I have attached a poster and also the entry form that needs to be submitted with each poem. \nThe ACS website has some very interesting resources that you might want to view that will help you show how chemistry is integral to the flavors and colors of spices.\nHere is the link: https://www.acs.org/education/national-chemistry-week/general-interest.html.  \nIf you want some free resources\, I have copies of a booklet for ages 9-12 that provides lots of information some easy activities you can use in your classroom.  I will be happy to give them to you until supplies last. SUMMARY:RI ACS Social at Tilted Barn Brewery
DESCRIPTION:Come join RI ACS at Tilted Barn Brewery on Saturday Oct 25th from 3pm-5pm for our Fall social event. Come celebrate the successful (hopefully?) start of the semester\, enjoy a drink and conversation with your colleagues on the grounds of Tilted Barn. The event will be located in the mezzanine of the Barn\, but everyone is free to roam the grounds. Tickets are $20 which includes a drink ticket as well as an assortment of appetizers. We hope to see you there!
